​Art Exhibition
Celebrating the American Landscape
On view October 15, 2023  — January 31, 2024

New Hampshire Antique Co-op is pleased to announce Celebrating the American Landscape, an exhibition of paintings featuring works from renowned artists of the late 1800s to the present. The exhibit highlights three 19th-century pivotal artistic movements: The White Mountain School, the Dublin Art Colony and Monadnock-region artists, and the Hudson River School. The exhibition is on view from October 15 through January 31 in the fine art gallery at New Hampshire Antique Co-op.

Historically, from the 1830s onwards, the iconic terrains of the White Mountains, Mt. Monadnock, and the Hudson River Valley have inspired artists to embark on missions to capture, on canvas, the essence of nature’s beauty and strength in these American landscapes. It was these characteristics that initially drew well-known artists to the area, inspiring them to create works that represented the dramatic views of the mountains and valleys. Their representations of the American wilderness were influenced by the aesthetic theory of the sublime, which accentuates awe within nature. 

The exhibition showcases a collection of more than 80 American landscape paintings in both the traditional 19th century style as well as Impressionist works. Featured artists include Benjamin Champney, John White Allen Scott, William Hart, James McDougal Hart, Frank Weston Benson, William Preston Phelps, Abbott Thayer, Alexander James, William Jurian Kaula, Chauncey Ryder, Bruce Crane, Paul King, Gifford Beal, Paul Sample, Aldro Hibbard, Walter Koeniger, Granville Perkins and Eric Sloane. Also included are contemporary New England artists Erick Ingraham, William R. Davis, Erik Koeppel and David Dodge.
