NHAC's Sam Hackler will be the first speaker in the 2019 Amos Fortune Forum summer speaker series. Sam invites you to join him as he presents what life was like in downtown East Jaffrey in the 1950s. He will pepper his talk with stories, anecdotes and other fond memories of people and events that took place during his early years in Jaffrey. Meet some of the folks who made such a difference in Jaffrey. Learn how this town was such a vibrant and inclusive community — challenging any young person with amazing activities and spirit.
Beginning at St. Patrick’s Church on Main Street in East Jaffrey, Sam will discuss the downtown of this small New England town, sharing memories and reflections of growing up in this post-war period. You will meet many characters who were integral to the fabric of this remarkable town. Sam will briefly discuss how these people, places and the events of the times molded his life as a “Jaffrey kid.” Individuals who made up this town contributed to the vitality and importance of Jaffrey, making Jaffrey the largest town in Cheshire County in the 1940s. Community was always important and Jaffrey provided the leadership and fellowship that made this a reality.
Established in 1946, Amos Fortune Forum summer lectures are held in the Meetinghouse located in Historic Jaffrey Center, 2 miles west of downtown Jaffrey, NH. Lectures are held on Fridays and begin promptly at 8 p.m. A social reception follows each lecture. All are welcome. There is no charge for admission.
